Joy Ride

Don't look if you have a weak stomach. This is my foot before they took out the stitches. Good news... they took out the stitches and I am healing nicely. Bad news...no shaving my leg for four more weeks and no shower for four more weeks. I still can't put any weight on it or drive. I now have a hard pink cast on my leg.

After my new cast I went to the grocery store to take a Joy ride in a driving cart. Something I have always wanted to do. It was the best time I have had in a month.

Fresh Air

My Caregiver finally let me go outside for some fresh air. I feel like an elderly person who watches people and everyone thinks they are creepy. Now I understand...they are so bored inside staring at the walls. My 81 year old grandma came to pay me a visit. She has had two hips replaced and had cancer this year and she came walking in. I told her I thought it was mean that she comes strolling in with no wheelchair and I was going to hit her with my crutches. She told me I could borrow her shower chair and high toilet seat...I think I might take her up on it. Monday is a big day. I get the staples removed in my foot...I will post a picture what it looks like with the staples in it. I get to shave my leg for the first time in a month...no picture of that, it looks like a man. I get to take a shower for the first time in a month. No picture of that either...perverts :)

my pity party

I am one week post op today. The surgery went fine and I asked for an NBA players tendon. They said they would see what they could do. The pain hurt more than childbirth when I woke up. Of course I knew a joke would be waiting for me when I woke up. Scott said...that I looked like a just got off my shift in the cafeteria. (Hair Net). The pain is relatively gone now...now it is just one big pain in the Butt.

As I lay here feeling like the hunch back of Notre Dame. Watching the world go by from my windows. My family does not want to hear me yell at them and give them things to do anymore. They close my door and put my meals under the door so they can go play without me. Scott thinks it is funny to treat me like a blind girl to teach me to fend for myself...push my crutches away from me...tells me someone won't always be there for me...etc....I am laughing at the same time I want to hit him. I wish he would read the http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/ and see how loving her husband is. I guess our love is different. I decided in my self-pity moments to think of things that could be worse...
1. Tearing 2 Achilles tendons
2. Having a new born baby with a torn Achilles tendon
3. Never being able to walk again
4. Having trained 4 years for the Olympics and weeks before tear my Achilles...therefore missing the Olympics. That happened to this years gold metal winner in figure skating. This story gave me hope as I saw him doing triple toe loops across the ice again. I can't do a triple toe loop but maybe with rehab and my new nba tendon....a girl can dream.
5. Not having any family and friends to take care of me and my family.
I guess things could be worse...I keep telling my kids be grateful you can walk because tomorrow you might tear you Achilles:) They keep telling me they want to lay in bed for weeks and not do any chores.

My endless love...my wheelchair

This is my new way to get down the stairs. Brody thinks it is a new game so we race. He wins!!

I never thought I would love a wheel chair. It was love at first sight. LOVE...LOVE...LOVE

I told Scott all I wanted for valentines day was a wheelchair ramp. He thought I was kidding. I wasn't.

My surgery is on Tuesday and I am excited to start healing. For some extra strength they are going to take my big toe tendon and attach it along with my Achilles.
I miss walking...

Oh, I forgot today is Valentines Day, so I better give my love a shout out!

Happy Valentines Day WHEELCHAIR...and Scott...I Love you!!

dang achillies

This injury occurs mainly in middle aged men who are not active, but go decide they can jump like they were in there 20's. This is why I am so angry it happened to me. I am active and not middle aged and a mother of 4 who can still jump. Can you tell me how a mother of 4 can be bedridden for a month after surgery. Did I mention it is my right foot so I can't drive. I am seriously going to go into a depression by not being able to run for 6 months. I asked my running partner to push me in a stroller like Brody. I look into my husbands eyes and see how worried he is...Not for me but how much he will have to do. I see real fear!!! This brings me some joy. My big accomplishment for the day includes hobbling to the bathroom. It hurts so bad but the drugs brings me some joy. I need to find joy in my journey because right now I am sad and scared. Who do I call when I am sad and scared? My mom.

Minor Setback

This post is to inform all readers of the "Full of Joy" blog that the author will soon be undergoing surgery. Tonight, in a mean game of multi-family dodge ball, Joy tore her achilles as she jumped up to avoid a throw striking her on her thigh (we will not name the person who threw the ball so as not to accuse her most loved one and make him feel any worse). As I write this, she is returning from the Emergency Room with her ankle in a splint, crutches in hand and enough vicodin for a small country.

Super Bowl Treat

I did not make this but thought it looked so right for a Superbowl party, yet so wrong at the same time. Total calories 24,487.
